大学毕业后，20_年，李影剑顺利进入招商轮船公司，他当时跑的航线覆盖了中国、日本、俄罗斯、美国等多个国家和地区。其中，跑得最多的是中东-亚洲、中东-欧洲、俄罗斯-美国这几条线路，运输的大多是原油和成品油。
李影剑介绍，要登上油轮，正式成为一名船员，也是有门槛的，而且门槛还不低。“首先，要考听、说比英语六级还难的航海英语；再一个，还要考甲类大副证书，这个证书每年全国考过的人数不超过200人。”
虽然待遇不错，但各行各业都有自己的苦。李影剑告诉记者，每次出海，最怕遇到台风、暴雨之类的极端天气，“只要遇到超级台风，即使你开的是30万吨级超大型油轮，但在海洋里也会像一片叶子一样飘来飘去，颠簸得让人难受”。
除了自然条件的挑战，作为远洋船员，他还必须熟悉各国的相关法律法规，这也包含进出港的文书、规则等。而且常年跟世界各国的人打交道，“就算不刻意学，但因为高频使用，英语底子也起来了”。
20_年，李影剑正式结束了自己十年的海员经历，“很感谢这段经历让自己拥有了更多认识世界的机会”。
